PERENNIAL ( PELVIC FLOOR )?
Physiotherapy with perineal rehabilitation approach (pelvic floor)?
This approach is for women of all ages with pelvic floor dysfunctions (incontinence, organ descent, sexual pain, lumbo-pelvic and anorectal pain). It is very important at the first sign and symptoms to consult your doctor to prevent the progression of the problem. In addition, your physiotherapist can prepare and advise you before delivery and continue your postpartum perineal evolution to recover well.
The physiotherapy approach is non-invasive and consists of initial assessment to identify the source of the problem. Thereafter, he will send you a treatment plan of strengthening exercises, proprioception, stretching and sometimes the use of electrostimulation, biofeedback device and pessaries can be used to optimize your condition. Do not hesitate to talk about it if you suspect a problem like this. It’s not normal even if you are old.
Cupping
What is the cupping technique?
Cupping therapy has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine. There are 3 types of techniques used:
1. Dry suction pad
2. Wet suction cup
3. Mobile suction cup
In physiotherapy we use only two, the dry suction cup and the mobile. Cupping therapy involves sucking and negative pressure to increase blood supply to a specific area of the body. Increased blood flow will loosen muscle tissue and fascia, and optimize the drainage of fluids and toxins from the area. Thus the primary functions of this technique are as follows:
1. Lymphatic drainage
2. Muscle relaxation
3. Decrease adhesions (scar, tissue pout)
4. Stimulate the body
Chronic and acute pain can be quickly relieved with minimal discomfort. Cupping therapy may, however, leave small red or bluish circles that may look like bruises. (“Cup kiss”) these will disappear in the days following the treatment. This technique, combined with a traditional approach to physiotherapy, is very effective despite the lack of study at this time.
VESTIBULAR (DIZZINESS)
Benin Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
BPPV is one of the main causes of vertigo. The word dizziness often misused means a sensation of turning in circles in space. Thus, BPPV is manifested by the following signs and symptoms:
1. Dizziness
2. Nausea and sometimes vomiting
3. Occurs as a result of rapid changes in position in space.
4. The symptoms are short-lived and violent
Pathology: Internal ear image
The inner ear is composed of 3 channels (posterior, anterior, horizontal) which are filled with liquid inside. When the head is moving, the liquid moves and when it stops the liquid also stops. However, it can happen that crystals are detached from the saccule and come to walk in the channels. As a result, as the head moves, the crystals move and continue to move as the head comes to rest. Thus, the brain believes that the head is always moving which causes a vertigo of a few seconds and fades.
If you feel its signs and symptoms, it could be a benign positional vertigo. Do not hesitate to consult your health professional, especially as this dysfunction and easily and quickly resolved in a few sessions of physiotherapy.
